ESPRIT – #ImPerfect

„Perfektion & Imperfektion“

Was ist falsch, was richtig für mich.

English:
Perfection & Imperfection”; have you ever even thought about this topic? I mean, seriously kept yourself busy with it… maybe even in relation to yourself? Because I believe that we all have something to say about it, if we really think about it. And I think that it is an extremely important topic, too. Especially because it is something that out society tends to keep under lock and key – or sometimes even use it incorrectly.

When ESPRIT launched their #ImPerfect campaign, they made a very bold, strong and ambiguous statement. That was the moment when I started to actually think about this topic in detail.

I have only just finished my exam period for uni for which I really tried to keep myself strong and motivated – which was quite difficult given the amount of stress I sometimes felt. I always had 101 other things I would have much rather done. But who isn’t like that? Combine that with the winter blues, which this time “luckily” stuck with me all the way through to spring… So I tried to sort my chaotic thoughts and feelings, which didn’t exactly turn the past few weeks into a walk in the park – emotionally speaking, I mean.

I have often asked myself if, so far, I have chosen the right path for myself; if I am currently actually following that path; what makes me happy or what keeps me from succeeding on specific days.

„How satisfied am I with myself, my thoughts, and my looks…?“

If I actually like the fact that my circle of friends sees me as a businesswoman and what that means for my future – businesswoman. What is wrong, what is right for me? And then you also have the fear of making a mistake.

And for me it is really interesting to observe and analyze myself. The changes I have gone through in the past couple of years or how my way of thinking has changed and adapted itself.
Nowadays, I find many things about me beautiful, simply amazing. Things for which I used to be ashamed of and sometimes even get bullied for at school. My skinny arms, my chin dimple, my name and so much more… crazy isn’t it?
As a child, I desperately wanted a “normal” (German) name, just to not stick out of the crowd. Today, those are exactly the things that make me who I am. And especially(!) the things that I love about myself. In the past I have spent a lot of time on fiddling around with my looks and to changing many things. Even today, during gloomy days I still find myself not being able to comprehend something and ask myself why exactly that had to happen at that point in time. But then came a point in my life, in which I told myself that I simply have to build up some blind faith and sometimes have to accept that everything is how it is, and comes how it comes.
At the end of the day (or the gloomy phase) the sun always rises again. And the most important thing is: it will all get better or turns out to be good just the way it is.
The same counts for me: I am beautiful and great exactly the way I am.

I LOVE being me; to not being “perfect”. No matter what or how that may be. To have my rough edges, which make me interesting.

And if there is something that I have learned in the past, then it is that perfection is boring. It is something that doesn’t even impress me in or attract me to other people anymore.
Isn’t it the fact that we are crazily different that makes us interesting?! The amount of times we spend talking about THE perfect person, the perfect looks, the perfect demeanor, but what does perfection even mean? And if we sit down and actually think about the topic of perfection, do we even still want to be perfect? Instead of standing by our characteristics that all make us so special… if you ask me, my answer is ‘no’ – loud and clear.

It is a mistake to not want to make mistakes, because it is those mistakes that make us who we are. Be you, speak your thoughts and feelings whenever you need or want to. And always remember to do what does you good. You are beautiful exactly the way you are. Each and every one of you.
